I think I had a pot belly for a few weeks after that because it was a big tub of the stuff. I had to run a lot in gym class to shed those pounds...

Reply Lugbzurg, February 9th, 2013, 10:32 am

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Sly 4 came out, already!?

Speaking of which, I've been playing Tom Clancy's original Splinter Cell.
Almost done. It's really good. Kinda reminds me of 007: NightFire.

Also related is that I cleared Ty 3. Well, I think it's at 76% completion or so. However, before I shut it off, I had to go to Cassopolis and talk to my favorite character. (Yes, my favorite character is a minor NPC.) Interestingly enough, she had three new lines of monologue for me upon the game's completion.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 9th, 2013, 10:35 am

@Lugbzurg: Yeppers. Sly 4 came out this Teusday. I was gonna get it after Fire Emblem Awakening for the 3DS, but apparently, due to a shipping eror, the release date's been pushed back an entire week all over the U.S.

And that minor NPC, is that the shadow-ghost bat girl, or the oddball dancer who's alway looking for Snappy?

@epicness: Lemme put this in perspective... Murray is a big, fat, purple hippo that makes Santa Claus look in shape. Now, imagine that, shaking EVERYTHING in a womans Geisha dress. IMAGINE IT!

Reply epicness, February 9th, 2013, 10:36 am

@Bruce the Hedgehound:
IT'S SEXY-*shot*

nah nah jking

Reply Lugbzurg, February 9th, 2013, 12:58 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Yeppers, the bat girl. As far as I know, she has no name. (Wait... "Shadow-Ghost"? What?) When she said she wanted to help Ty fight the Quinken, I thought it was the game's way of telling me I was getting a new partner. But... nope.

So, why do I like this character so much? Well, for one thing, she looks really cool. (Blue screllas!?) Plus, winged animals such as bats are often shy'd away from in anthropomorphic design. These people actually got it to work. Some people stick them in lazily. Case in point: Rouge the Bat. When I was a kid, I seriously thought she was a dragon.

Then of course, there's all that stuff she was saying. "Everything is upside-down!" Trying to get used to being the only nocturnal animal in Cassopolis, getting the hang of this "walking" thing, talking about her mother (I assume her mother was an enemy of Ty in one of the previous games) and the being teased with the whole "you can be the bat" thing. Also, I just know she has aspergers. I can just tell. I can relate.

Which begs the question that if so much depth was put into her (even more so than Ty and his friends), why was she only a minor NPC? If I were in charge, I'd make her a major character!

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 9th, 2013, 5:10 pm

@Lugbzurg: Oh yeah, the ghost bat girl. I liked her because I thought she was really cute when I was a kid. Even cuter with the Aussie accent she had. And yeah, her mom, Shadow, the ghost bat, was one of the last bosses of the very first game. You don't ever see her again, and she's not mentioned until Ty 3 by her daughter. I believe her name was Nina... not sure... Anyways, she is a quirky character in the game. But my favorite NCP is CY, who's also in Cassopolis because of his random conversations. Like, if you talk with him he says that his CD burner must be broken because whenever he puts in a CD, it catches on fire. XD Or how the irony is how his name is CY but he physically can't sigh, and when he tries, it sounds like a malfunctioning Atari console.

Reply Lugbzurg, February 9th, 2013, 9:01 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: "Nina", huh? I was calling her "Tessa" for some reason. Actually, it turns out the developers did bother to give her a name. I was looking through a Ty wiki and noticed a picture of her on one of the main pages. Her name is "Shade". And she's also half flying fox. Turns out she was put into the game because Shadow "wasn't cute enough". (So judging by what you said about her, it seems the developers succeeded.)
The minor NPCs seemed to get the most amusing lines. Too bad there weren't a lot to talk to. Most of them just wandered around and you couldn't seem to interact with them in any way, aside from getting in their path and getting them to stop walking. I was just showing my little sister around Cassopolis, talking to all the NPCs I could find. There were only, like... four or five of them. (Especially considering Boss Cass wasn't there for some reason and Fluffy had already... um... "left".) She was laughing through nearly everything they said. I've gotta find the first two games!

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 10th, 2013, 10:21 am

@Lugbzurg: I say you should indeed find the first two. Very good games. They certainly didn't set the world on fire, but you'll find hours of entertainment. Like I said, I think the second one is the best of the trilogy. As for the comment about Shadow not being cute enough.... Well, if you actually see and hear her in the first game, she's a friggin' nightmare! Coming from one who played the game as a kid, she was one of the most disturbing things in the game. The only other thing to scare me were the impossibly huge spiders.... *twitch*

Reply Lugbzurg, February 10th, 2013, 5:10 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Yeah, I happened to take a look and found that Shadow does seem rather creepy.

So, the good news is that you'll soon get over it. The bad news is that I have to find the most horrific crap-your-pants-out-level footage of spiders and tarantulas imaginable for it to take full effect. Or you can stick to your "love" of arachnids, as I find other ways to enhance the effect.

Finally finished Sly 4! Gotta say, it was pretty good, but I feel like it was comparitavely shorter by about 2 or 3 hours compared to the other three. And the final boss fight was kind of dissapointing since it was a string of QTEs but it was certainly fun.

Oh, and while the game was great overall, it might be sent to a circle in Video Game Hell for commiting the sin of closing on a cliffhanger.

Reply Lugbzurg, February 12th, 2013, 4:53 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: I never understood why people whined about that in Halo 2. Strangely, I've heard no complaints about the ending to Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction.

Speaking of which, I wonder if this film ended in any sequel bait?

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 12th, 2013, 5:06 pm

@Lugbzurg: Because clifhangers suck in general. It raises hope for something that doesn't have any clear choice on whether or not there will be a sequel or not.

And I'm not thrilled at all on how Sly 3 ended on a big fat cliffhanger, I was upset back then, but not as upset now since a fourth instalment came out. But seeing as how Sucker Punch is a pretty popular 2nd party developer and that they follow througth the entirety of the Sly series, ten there's reason to believe there will be a fifth game. Still, that doesn't change the fact that the game committed a sin and must be purged with fire.... after the next few months.

Reply Lugbzurg, February 13th, 2013, 10:02 am

@Bruce the Hedgehound: What's so bad about cliffhangers?
If they're so accepted in films, books, and definitely comics, why not in games?

Just how many spiders were in that epilogue that it ticked you off so much?

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 13th, 2013, 11:00 am

@Lugbzurg: Because, unlike movie, comics and books, video game sequels have a very fickle destiny. In fact, when you think about it, we may have not gotten Sly 4 in the first place. Sucker Punch didn't even develop it this time. And as I mentioned before, there is no possibility that a sequel will be in the works. So, why would you promise something like a cliffhanger in the first place? Just because they're accepted, doesn't mean it's a good thing. We accept that the world is crooked and some government systems are corrupt in this world, but that doesn't mean it's good.

Reply Lugbzurg, February 13th, 2013, 3:19 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: So, in other words...

Videogame cliffhangers = bad, because no reason.

Besides, it was blatantly-obvious Halo was getting another sequel, and yet people still continue to whine and cry and moan about Halo 2's cliffhanger ending.

"There is no possibility that a sequel will be in the works."
Just like EVERYTHING. Not just videogames.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 13th, 2013, 4:13 pm

@Lugbzurg: Silence! Cliffhangers are part of the rebel alliance and are traitors!

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Why, Tedd, why!?

Reply Fiora Aroura, February 13th, 2013, 9:53 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: I think Sly Cooper's story should have just ended right there at the 3rd. I mean, the gang split up and went their ways and-hey, does Penelope return? She has to. She was a really great character and her and Bently were so cute :D "No one touches that turtle!....but me." XDD

Or what about the Guru? His game play was so awesome ^^ I wouldn't mind not seeing the Panda King though, and I know Dimitri's in it.
Ooh, I have a big question for you and I don't mind if you tell me, but is Sly's father in it? I could probably just Google this....>_>

But back to my main point, I really think they should have just left it there. Sly finally got with Carmelita, Bently went off with Penelope, Murray pursued his car racing dream. Happy ending. I'm fascinated to see where they could possibly take the story from there.

"I'm here, wish you were me." -Dimitri

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 13th, 2013, 10:04 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Well, I'll answer your questions, but as a preemtive warning, there will be spoilers in the following comments, so avert your eyes if you plan to get it.

First of all, Penelope IS in fact in the game... but she's on the bad guys' side because she was disapointed with Bently using his knowledge for something as trivial as an honorable thief and wanted to make billions making destructive weaponry.

The Guru, and the Panda King are not present in the game at all... or mentioned, for that matter. Except for Dimitri, who's their informant from the future... and is making a lucritive buisness with a TV show about him diving and partying. I'm glad to see him making an awesome comeback after being a simpleton bag guy from Sly 2. But in exchange, you can play as ancestors of the Cooper clan. Starting with Rioichi Cooper, master ninja and sushi chef from Feudal Japan, Tenesse Kid Cooper, greatest outlaw ever from the Wild West, Bob(as Sly nicknames him), from the IceAge, Sir Galeth Cooper, an honorable knight from Medivel Europe, and Salim Al Kupar, the top of the fabled 40 Thieves from ancient Arabia.

Now, as for Sly's father... no, he's not mentioned, but a previous heist he pulled actually set the entire events of the game.

Reply Fiora Aroura, February 13th, 2013, 10:14 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Peh-...Penelope...

Okay that was a little...terrible! I can't believe she would do that 8( She was one of my favorite characters X'(

Everyone loved Dimitri ^_^ and his greasy sweetness XD I'm not surprised that he's still around.

But dude, that is so AWESOME that we can play as Sly's ancestors!!! Me and my brothers were hoping this game would have that (since it about time travel and everything) I'm so excited to play it now! Especially as Rioichi. She was my fav ^^ Tenesse Kid will definitely be interesting. Western times and all that XD

Aw darn :( this would have been the perfect time to see Sly's dad. And maybe figure out how the bloody frig he figured out how to walk on lazers!

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 13th, 2013, 10:56 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Yeah I know. Penelope kiiinda had good intentions, but bad execution.

(and Dimitri's suit STILL sucks. >>)

They're all really fun to play as and have different skills pertaining to their time period, professon, or special canes. For instance, Rioichi can jump even further distances than Sly, and since he invented the Ninja Spire Jump(my favorite Cooper move) he does so with perfect percision. Tenesse uses his specially modified cane-pistol to fire shots at enemies at extremely quick speeds and can run on railways and wires even quicker than Sly since he invented the Cooper Railwalk. Bob is good at climbing walls and developed the iconic Cooper family cane with nothing but a stick and the tooth of a pterodactyl. Galeth, while a little overdramatic is an extremely good lancer and can pullvault himself up walls at a lethalspeed. That, and he established the Cooper Order, which cemented the Cooper's as being honorable thieves. Salim is the most elderly member of the Cooper clan seen so far, and he's an excellent climber, climbing up poles even faster than Sly can and dodging attacks easily... also, for his Stealth Slam, he traps enemies in a Genie Lamp! XD

Oh, and even cooler, Sly gets new costumes every chapter that has cool perks in the field for collecting treasure and completing missions. ...Oh, and Rioichi is a male and apparently invented sushi.

Reply Fiora Aroura, February 14th, 2013, 5:54 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Man, I'm really put out by that :( Darn it Penelope X(

What? Rioichi WAS the one to invent the Ninja Spire Jump, right? That was a GIRL!
They all sound so fun and interesting to play as :)
You know, I've always wondered what Sly will add to the book. I don't know if he has his signature move yet 8/

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 14th, 2013, 6:26 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Nnnnyope, Rioichi is a male. First you ever hear of Rioichi was the very first game, even saying back then he was male. In fact, the only female Cooper I've heard of was Henrietta "One-Eye" Cooper, THE best female pirate. She's even mentioned in one chapter in Thieves in Time when Sly is dissapointed that he can't haul off a literal mountain of treasure because Henrietta was destined to steal it, and he shouldn't mess with the timeline.
Since this one ended with a big cliffhanger at the end of the game, a fifth game might be expected, maybe then we'll learn what Sly will add to his legacy?

Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day! *gives a chocolate heart*

Reply Fiora Aroura, February 14th, 2013, 6:44 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: My gosh, I thought for sure he said "her" -_-
I obviously need to replay them. Heee~ I love Mz. Ruby's "Deadly Dance." That's definitely my most favorite part in Sly Cooper history ^^
I've never heard of Henrietta. She wasn't in the least in the pages that were stolen. Or in the Cooper Vault...wait..or was she? GAH! I need to replay them.

Daaaaaaw, thanks! ^_^ *noms chocolate*

@Fiora Aroura: My favorite Sly moment was... watching Neyla fly away in frustration after getting her plane blown up. XD

True, Henrietta wasn't seen in some pages of the Thieveus Racoonus, but she was briefly mentioned in Sly 3 in the Cooper Vault. Other than that, I don't recall her being mentioned anywhere else.

Reply Fiora Aroura, February 14th, 2013, 7:10 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: "What's the matter poodle? You need to call on your little friends for help!"
*Sly calls Bently*
"Attention little friend!"

Neyla was a pretty good character, despite the betrayal. The Contessa REALLY freaked me out though! Her eyes... 8( (And she was half spider, eh Bruce? XD)
Yea, I think she was mentioned in the Vault. It's optional if you want to go through and read all the ancestors. Mostly I just tried to run through the thing as fast as I can -_-

@Fiora Aroura: :3
Bentley: "To get Murray, Sly and myself close enough to the door to open... ahh, Carmelita will have to distract the guards by performing a... a belly dance..."
Carmelita: "What!?"
Sly: "This is the best plan you've ever come up with Bentley!"
Carmelita: "Shut up, Ringtail!"
New favorite conversation! XD The old one was between Dimitri and Sly before their fight.

The Contessa... Having to follow her and pickpocket those keys and plans is going to appear in my personal Hell if I don't make it to the heavenly gates...

Reply Fiora Aroura, February 14th, 2013, 7:34 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: .....BWAAHAHAHAHA! LOLWUT?! XDDDDDD
Did they really say that? That's hilarious! XDDD Ah Sly ^^
So what, does Carmelita team up with them?

XD Yea, it was always a pants-crapping moment when the Contessa spots you or you run into her accidentally XD
(But I think it was scarier running from a raging Murray pumped with spice!)
"I'm a little teapot short and stout. Tip me over and I'LL SMASH EVERYTHING!!!"

Reply Lugbzurg, February 14th, 2013, 7:37 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Ya wanna pickpocket a spider?

I am missing out on so much, aren't I? When PlayStation Move Heroes (then called "Heroes on the Move") was announced, I had no idea who this "Bentley" person was.

Reply Fiora Aroura, February 14th, 2013, 7:40 pm

@Lugbzurg: WHAT?? How can you NOT know who Bently is? >:(

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 14th, 2013, 7:41 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Oooh yeah, it happened alright... but Murray kept trying to convince Bentley that he could squeeze into the dress so HE could do it... and sure enough, you have to play a mini-game where you belly dance in front of the guards. And Carmelita does join the group, but she's not a permanent member of the gang. She's still mad at Sly for faking his amnesia at the end of Sly 3., but it's finally great to see that he's not a mindless criminal and that they both fight crime, just on different sides of the law. Honestly, I never expected such great character development with each member in a game as silly as this. :/

Thankfully, The Contessa doesn't appear in this installment.... that doesn't stop the creators from tossing in big fuzzy spiders during Tenesse Kid Coopers level... Those guys come in PACKS! And Tenesee hates spiders too. The only good thing is that he can shoot 'em quickly and get them out of the way.

@Lugbzurg: Nooo! Bentley is almost exactly like Donatello... just with no Ninja skills and thick bottle top glasses.

Reply Fiora Aroura, February 14th, 2013, 7:47 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Oh gosh...I SO want to see that!! XDDD
Well it's about time Carmelita realized that. Sly even said that he only steals from criminals. (Except when it's fancy chocolate he wants to give to Carmelita XD)
Poor spiders :( I bet they're beautiful on the inside.
"Follow the spiders. Why couldn't it be follow the butterflies?" -Bruce someday

(lol Donatello ^^)

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 14th, 2013, 7:51 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Wait till you see Murray dancing in a Geisha girl outfit. It's terrifying! Also there was this big "WTF?" moment, where Murray's disguise was so convincing that the boss at the time, El Jefe, gave him a firm slap on his butt after kissing his hand. I stubbed my toe with my dropping jaw when that happened. o__O
And those spiders are NOT beautiful on the inside! ...They're gooey and sticky.

I'm watching dem Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The 2003 series. I frackin' lurb the new 2012 series, but I equally like the dark and edgyer previous generation.

Reply Lugbzurg, February 15th, 2013, 8:36 am

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Wouldn't that be two generations, then? There was another one between the new one and Fast Forward called "Back to the Sewer". Or was that still connected to the 2003 series and Fast Forward?

Oh, and if you like it all dark like this, you should see the turtles in their original comic book format. They were much darker back then. That first TV series softened them up/down and made them goofy.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, February 15th, 2013, 9:28 am

@Lugbzurg: Nah, Back to the Sewers was connected to the 2003 series. The whole saga was an enormous continuity. As for the comics. I do not like them very much. They weren't very fleshed out and since they always wore red bandanas you might as well have just copy/pasted the one turtle three times. The '87 series, while a goodhearted show, still didn't give them enough distinctiveness. At their core, they were still the same turtle, but with very tiny quirks about them, that and their bandanas finally changed. The 2003 series is the perfect blend of the two. It keeps the darker and edgier feel of the comics, a new revamped artstyle, and it not only keeps the small quirks the turtles had back in '87, but now they improve it by making it their individuality. The new 2012 series also goes the same route and the first part of the 2K3 series, before the future and cyberspace junk got tossed in. It keeps a somewhat noir feel about it, and does have some genuinely funny moments, but doesn't rely on puns like the 87 series. And probably the coolest thing I've seen in the new generation is that Donatello is voiced by the very same voice actor that did Raphael back in '87! Isn't that crazy!? :D Honestly, his voice fits Donny WAAAY more than it fits Raph.

Reply Lugbzurg, February 15th, 2013, 11:13 am

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Similarly, Lion-O's original voice actor from the first series became the voice of his father in the new ThunderCats series.
