And look, you're all awake again.
There's a lot of hidden symbolism in this page...

Wow, it took me most of today and yesterday to tackle this puppy. I needed to upload it quickly cause I have a lot more comics to get done. And guys, I'm begging you, get your entries in on time. I really don't want to blank out any of the fight scene and ending.
No tails on the word bubbles here...just cuz.

With that said, I'm going to bed -_-

So, I just finished retrogaming through this game called Ardy Lightfoot, and I gotta say, there's this scene that's pretty friggin' disturbing for a 90s kid's game.

There's this part where Ardy, the character, fights some flying fox girl named Carty, and after the fight, she gets swollowed by a giant worm thing. So, Ardy has to go inside because she carried an important shiny thing that Ardy needs for the ending (which already set off a red flag because I hate Womb Levels...). So, when you get to... i dunno, the bottom I guess, of the worm, you find Catry. Or rather, what's left of her. Turns out, half of her body was dissolved by acid when you find her, leaving only a pile of bones...

Was this even ALLOWED back then!?

Reply Fiora Aroura, October 19th, 2012, 10:57 am

@Lugbzurg: Nah, you just like to pretend you know everything.

@Bruce the Hedgehound: What are you talking about? That was perfectly normal for a kids' game in the 90s. It's freaky for today's mentality is what it is. Not the 90s. And of course stuff like that was allowed back then. The ESRB wasn't as strict as they are now. In fact, if that game was in early-or-pre-1994, the ESRB didn't even exist back then!

We have Mortal Kombat to thank for the official rating system we get in videogames. Seriously, that was the game that caused the ESRB to exist. That's quite the achievement. If you wanna see more 90s game freakiness, take a look here.

This goes even further. You should also take a look at the Castlevania series.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, October 19th, 2012, 3:06 pm

I know a lot worse has been done, i.e. someone getting their spine torn out, but this is that kind of kids game that makes the Care Bears vomit baby bunnies when you look at it. Plus, I just realized that the version I was playing was the Japanese version. In the American version, Catry was just lying down looking dizzy rather than half dissolved.

@.Sabbo: Not so Fun Fact, Giygas was inspired by what seemed to be rape(which it wasn't). So the creator made Giygas to cope with his childhood trauma, which in turn caused millions of children and teens who played to be traumatized themselves when they see Giygas.

Yeah they released the Ace Attorney games on the app store, and they seem to be dead set on releasing HD remixes for all their fighting games. Sega, on the other hand recently made HD remakes of Nights, Sonic Adventures 1 and 2 (You have to pay for the content from the Gamecube remakes, of course)a Dreamcast hits collection, Sonic CD, but yet no Shenmue or Panzer Dragoon. Goddammit Sega.

Yep, you definitely pay attention to what we comment.

It's fine. No one notices more than half of what I say anyway, online or IRL.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, October 20th, 2012, 12:32 am

Wow, I just realized that Tara Strong has been in pretty much EVERY SUDA 51 game ever! From a cowardly, barefoot assassin to a sexy and provacative, cheating, French buisness fruade, all the way to a chainsaw-weilding cheerleader who carries her boyfriend's severed head!
She's so awesome! :D

I just find it painfully hilarious that for every sweet and innocent character she portrays in media, there is some sort of devilish polar opposite.

Like, from Twilight Sparkle, a smart scientist who treasures friendship, to Toot Braunstein, a fatty fat-fat-fat chick who cuts herself, has a massive drinking problem, bolemic, and one of the dirtyest characters all together in cartoons(and she admits, Toot is her favorite character to play, ever.).
Or Timmy Turner, an average kid who no one- *shot in the face* Ehhh.... right. To Princess Clara, an incestuous, racist, sexual deviant who has a tentacle monster where her lower lady bits should be, with a totalitarian belief in Christianity.
And she's still awesome! :D

The same kinda goes for James Arnold Taylor, one of my favorite Voice actors, who starred with Tara in the show that had Toot and Clara. Like, he plays Tidus from Final Fantasy X, and Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank. Then he plays Wooldoor Sockbat. For those who don't know Wooldoor Sockbat, well... He's like SpongeBob if he ever did some MAJOR drugs and never wore shoes. Heck, there was a funny part in an episode where he was called a "poorly concieved SpongeBob parody". You wanna know how messed up he is? Here's an example, he can communicate over the phone with his own butt by farting. I don't know how. But he does.

Reply Lugbzurg, October 20th, 2012, 6:19 am

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Tara also plays Talwyn Apogee; a recent (2007) major character in the Ratchet & Clank series! As soon as I heard her speak, I knew it was Tara Strong's voice!

@Fiora Aroura: Vulgarity is no substitute for wit!

Reply .Sabbo, October 20th, 2012, 9:15 am

@Bruce the Hedgehound: But Tidus had horrendous voice acting.

Reply Fiora Aroura, October 20th, 2012, 10:59 am

@Bruce the Hedgehound: That doesn't necessarily tell you what kind of person they are, they're just reading the scripts. Gotta make money somehow, these actors.
James Arnold Taylor is one of my FAVORITE voices ever! Probably because I'm such a huge fan of Ratchet. He's my voice actor idol, that's for sure.

@greenpowerstar: Well I wonder why..cuz every time you comment, it's usually depressing or emo. No one wants to read that. And really, quit with the guilt trips, I'm really not about to feel sorry for you. I haven't asked more of you than to participate in the comic you signed up for. All I'm seeing is a spoiled brat too lazy to make a simple little comic, and seems to be trying to get others to make it for him out of pity.
No, I'm not angry at you or dislike you, but yes, I'm disappointed.
If you haven't got the so called time, work on it little by little each day. You obviously have enough time to comment on the internet. So use that time and you'll have it done sooner than you think.

@Fiora Aroura: Nah, I know it doesn't reflect who she is, but I just think it's so friggin' awesome with all the characters she portrays.

In fact, here's some of the voice work that Tara and James did for one of their shows. But I warn you, the stuff in these scenes are RADICAL. Proceed at your and your mind's own risk.

Currently, I'm looking at...

Ryan Drummond
J.K. Simmons
James Arnold Taylor
Tara Strong
John De Lancie

@Bruce the Hedgehound: As can I. I'm thinking I could do a whole slew of various secondary and extra voices for my own indie games, 'cause I'd rather leave the major characters to the professionals. I have been able to pull off various well-known characters' voices already, such as Sonic, Shadow, Big, Robotnik, Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Banjo, Kazooie, Gruntilda, Conker, Solid Snake, and Discord.

Like say....Robotnik gets a good gun and says "Make me happy!" Or Francis can't afford a door "I can't afford it! The economy's rough right now! Obama!" AGK would just be screaming in German the whole time, Hank Hill gets the box and it's flipping through the guns "Let's say I want a hammer! Do you know what a hammer is?!"
Then the zombies could be either Chris Crocker screaming "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!" Or Billy Mayes, coming around the corner, "Hi, Billy Mayes here!" Or when their legs are blown off but they're still crawling towards you "But I'm not done yet!"

Hit that with a light arrow. Got it?

Reply Lugbzurg, October 25th, 2012, 2:01 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Most of today's games coddle the players way too much. This is why your future kids must play oldschool videogames!

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, October 25th, 2012, 2:09 pm

@Lugbzurg: Tell me about it. Going through the first Ratchet and Clank is frustrating. Low hit points, very few and far apart checkpoints, and enemies out the wazoo! And I love it! If I could ask for one thing in this game, it would be a few more check points(because I hate going bach to the beginning of a stage that had a lot of enemies.... specificly, Planet Pokitaru...) Or more obtainable hit points. Ratchet can only get smacked around 4 times before he bites it. And since there's non of that post-hit invincibility, and in leter levels, the enemies counter attack, it can get frustrating when you're staring at your starting point dozens of times.

Really, I kinda miss the old days of gaming where it was jewel-stomping hard, and as Yahtzee put it "rubbed sh*t in our eyes and played fanfare. And we loved it!" Some games don't have to be easy, whereas the experience is what matters, or TOO hard and unforgiving like Demon Souls...

@.Sabbo: If it "really isn't that good" it would not have gotten such huge acclaim. Heck, it's been called Greatest Game Ever Made on many accounts around the world and the internet, and people still look back on it as a milestone of gaming. I know it's your oppinion of it not being that great, but you can't argue the fact that it deserves its accolades. It deserves every bit of credit it got, and still gets.

As the first step into 3D for the series as Ocarina of Time is, it's rather mind-blowing. But I find Majora's Mask better. But we also must remember how many franchises struggled with the jump to 3D.

@Bruce the Hedgehound: That is why I want to play Demon Souls and its spiritual (no pun intended this time) successor, Dark Souls. I hear you can't even pause... that's a bit far. Not to mention Super Meat Boy and Castlevania. I also have Master Quest! (It's a harder version of Ocarina of Time, for those who didn't know.)

Too many videogames these days are trying to be movies. They're so scared of breaking flow, so afraid of the player screwing up, that they take every measure possible to ensure that the player makes it through ok. Did you know you can't even die in Kirby's Epic Yarn? What ever happened to "Nintendo hard"? These aren't movies. They're videogames. This is why I think the Uncharted series should have gone to film instead of videogames.

Even if I were to vote, I wouldn't vote for Romney anyways. He's a smiley jerk-face with unreasonable laws. Like trying to raise taxes on the middle class and putting birth control out of commission(and if those two factors combine, there will be some SERIOUS ramafications in the future...) cutting social security and Medicare, which is bogus, and then there's that disturbing, 'invasive ultrasound' thing. Don't know what that is? Well I'm not gonna say it but let's just say... it's very uncomfortable for women. That being said, if I WAS going to vote, yes, I would vote for Obama. Why? Simply because we can, and will, do worse with Romney. Obama seems to be the lesser of two evils here IMO.
Oh yeah, but the big hitter for me is that he's gonna make gay marriage illegal. That tears it for me.

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Wow... I remember hearing Trevor Fayas going on about how he doesn't like Romney, but I didn't understand the whole thing. That was rather clear.

There are more than just Obama and Romney running for president. They're just the big two, and it's more than likely one of them will win than the smaller ones.

@epicness: You know, about that whole game thing... I want my games to be very hard. They're not films, they're videogames. And I think a lot more games need to embrace this fact, rather than being interactive lesser movies.

Another thing is to look at Doom. It can be deathly hard in its "Nightmare" skill level, even warning you before you start it, asking you if you're sure, because it "isn't even remotely fair". Then again, on the easiest skill level, if you die even once, you're probably just bad at videogames. That's some major differing skill compatibility. The differences between multiple skill levels (if there even are any) in modern games are scarcely noticeable and may even slip past your radar. Literally and figuratively.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, October 26th, 2012, 6:05 pm

@Lugbzurg: Just remember Lug, difficulty isn't the only thing that applies for a game. There has to be equality in drama, spectacle, fun, and other elements that make it good. Imagine if EVERY movie that came out was a blockbuster Super Hero movie like Avengers, yeah, it's gonna be awesome, but then we wouldn't have room for comedies, romances, or horror films, if all they focused on was one aspect. Sure, maybe games coddle the player these days but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Look at New Super Mario Bros. 2. It was very easy to play, and you could beat the main campaign within 5 hourse with lives easily stacked up in the hundreds. BUT! where it fell short of difficulty, it more than made up for it wit it's jaw-dropping level design, fun gameplay and oodles of secrets to keep people playing. Along with that is the addictive Coin Rush mode. Me, I've beaten the game and collected more than 1million coins weeks ago, but I still go back just to look at the pretty levels, beat my coin rush score and to just have fun. It's not all about one aspect. Games have to have a certain harmony, just like every other form of media out there.

Reply Lugbzurg, October 26th, 2012, 6:19 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: The easiest way to make a game hard is to make player death more likely. However, there are still others.

Legend of Zelda games can be hard, but not because of the combat. It's pretty much everything else. Combat is easy! Besides, like I mentioned about Doom, it can range from pathetically easy to deathly hard. I should have been clearer. That's what I'd really like to do.

One thing I'd like to do with my General Generic concept is that, if you play the game normally, it's going to be easy. However, if you take the time to explore, doing things outside the goal, going in with more or less a "Zelda Mindset", things get real different in those secret places. Not to mention, a lot more difficult. So, it would normally be easy. But if experienced players use their skills to get to hidden areas, it gets much harder. It gets harder at the rate of the player's own skill. This does tie into the story, but I probably shouldn't spoil what that is.

You got that from PBG, didn't you?

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Oh, yeah. Somecallmejohnny mentioned that and Contra in his Castlevania review, saying they were even harder!

I really hope the Serious Sam games can get hard. In trailers and such, I don't see that many enemies, even though that's the entire point of the game's engine (and processing huge areas). All I can hope for is that whoever recorded footage for the trailers was playing on one of the easier skill levels. With gameplay like this (and the Serious Engine's capabilities), I actually want to be overwhelmed with well over a hundred enemies coming after me all at once! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOoZEkR8i-A

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, October 26th, 2012, 7:00 pm

@Lugbzurg: *throws chair out window* NO!!! No! I've played Contra and Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and let me tell you something Mister Lugington Boris Zurg: Ghosts'n Goblins is HARDERRR than them all! In fact, lemme give you a run down of things that make it hard and unforgiving.

1. Two hits, and you die. That's it. And monsters come out of every single corner of the screen and your starter weapon is pitiful, so you have better bring some lube when you play that game. Cuz you're gonna need the whole bottle.

2. Erratic enemy patters. A lot of the enemies can block your path or just move around to the point of death where you stand.

3. Trickster Weapons. The first weapon you get is a lance that is pretty straight forward. But upon reaching the first boss, it is pitiful beyond belief. To even stand a chance for THE REST OF THE GAME. you have to get a knife.

4. Grinding Yourself Retarded. Remember when I said getting a knife? Yeah, you have to get them from ghosts that fly around spasticly. If you're fortunate enough to even get to them without dying, you have to kill them to get the knife. The catch? It's a random drop rate, so you'll need to kill, and kill, and kill, AND KILL... untill you find it.

5. Short Time limit. You only get 3 minutes before you bite the dust. Now, if you're trying to kill the ghosts to get the knife weapon, expect to die from the timer running out.

6. Fool Weapons. Okay, so you got yourself a knife, and you think you can take on anything, right? WRONG. See, the thing is that you keep a weapon permanently even if you die. Handy huh? Well, it's a double edged sword. If you happen to pick up a sucky weapon, i.e. anything that's NOT the knife, you might as well just pull your panties down and bend over, because you're screwed. In one of the levels, there is a ladder you have to take to continue, if you move a certain way, there will be a sucky weapon that will not go away no matter what you do untill you grab it. And you'll KEEP IT forever.

6. Game Sends You Back. Yeah... Here's the thing about the game that just makes me die a little inside, and is the reason I've never beaten the game. In Level 6, before you fight Satan, you have to get a Cross to finish him off for good. Now, the path to Satan is riddled with enemies is long and brutal. ANd you have to mind your time limit. The cross is very weak, and it's the equivilant of your starting weapon, you you have to kill all the enemies, go aaaaalll the way to the start of the level, pick it up then go right back to the end, then you can finish off Satan. But what happens when you don't grab it? Well, if you're fortunate enough to kill Satan, but unfortunate enough to not have the Cross.... the game automaticly sends you back to the beggining of level 5...

7. Second Round. Satan is one of the hardest bosses in the game, and when you beat him... you have to fight him again...

8.It's All a Lie! So, let's say you beat every level, got the cross and killed Satan, and the Devil who is the final Boss... Well when you finish the game, it tells you that the whole game was just a joke made by the Devil himself and that you have to play through the WHOLE GAME. again. Even worse? IT STEPS UP THE DIFFICULTY!!!!!!

And that, my freinds is why I never beat it, and why it is the hardest game ever made.

Yeah I find it very odd that two men, or women, would be 'touching' differently than a straight couple, but they deserve the right to be happy just like anyone else. Besides, half of straight marriages end if failure anyways and the gays probably have more appreciation for it because they are fighting for the right, y'know?

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Kay. Say the same sex get married. What then? What are they going to do about kids? Man and women were built the way they were for a reason, and same sex cannot produce children. So what, adopt? Even then, is that really a healthy family? Studies show that children need a father figure and a mother figure. What do you say when your child asks you "Daddy, why don't I have a mommy?" When the other kids talk about their parents?
From what I can tell, people love to rebel. Rebel their parents, rebel society, rebel what they've been taught. Legalize what they rebel, and what then? They'll want to rebel in something bigger and worse, am I wrong?
And don't give me that bullcrap about "They were born that way." Were you born to be a brony? Were you born to have a liking for chocolate ice cream? Genetics have nothing to do with what you think.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, October 26th, 2012, 8:44 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Okay, I accept that people aren't born gay, but that doesn't mean they should be treated differently or be ousted. And sure, maybe kids do need a father figure but I haven't seen studies saying that children of a gay relationship grew up weird or messed up. Adopting is one option, which is nice since some children don't have a home, or a surrogate mother can remedy that too. And if a child wonders why s/he didn't grow up with a mommy or daddy, well, maybe that would be a good time to tell children that just because you are different that most of society doesn't make you a bad person. Hey, it might even have those particular children be more tolerant to the many differences in the world. Who knows? And about rebelion, yes, it's human nature to go against something, but it's not like they're asking for everyone to be forcibly tolerant to gays. They just want to be together and have the same benefits. If people don't like the gays, so be it. Doesn't mean they should be excluded from the right to be happy.

As a matter of fact, freedom from oppresion is the reason why America was founded in the first place. So, technically we'd be hypocrites to deny people's freedoms.

UM...

Reply Lugbzurg, October 26th, 2012, 9:02 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Uhh... Dude? You just completely misread what I said. I told you Johnny mentioned that Ghosts 'n' Ghouls and Contra were harder than Castlevania. Not the other way around.

As for the marriage thing, Fiora's right. (She's wrong about the videogames, but I'll get to that later.) I've been notified about these statistics. Human beings are wired to need both a mother and father figure. Having two fathers that act like mothers is no substitute. Plus, most homosexual marriages end in miserable failure. And that's just some of the real-world study aspects; things people have discovered through scientific research.

I should also point out that this reminds me of the whole thing about children in The Elder Scrolls V. Players were furious that they couldn't kill (or even attack) children, even though they could do the same to everything else. Then, once a new mod came out that allowed them to do any such thing, they downloaded it, and shortly after, they just didn't care, anymore. People will often be armed to the teeth to get something, just because it isn't there for them. And once it's handed to them, they won't even bother with it. They just don't care.

@Fiora Aroura: Videogames are a big deal. Were not dealing with toys and checkers. Were dealing with the biggest, most advanced, and most profitable art form on the planet. In fact, I started thinking about the whole difficulty thing, and thought about the pattern. The rest of you are all more than welcome to listen.

Here's the thing. Most hard videogames are old with little-to-no story outside of a simple explanatory context. (IE: Save the princess, kill Dracula, blow everything up, etc.) Most easy games are new, with a much more grand, clearly-told story.

The developers are afraid that if the game is too hard, it will break the flow of the story, and they want to make sure the player understands everything and gets everything without frustration. This is also why we don't see so many easter eggs, secret areas, and other related goodies these days.

Compare old to similar new titles. Doom was built to be much harder than any Call of Duty game. Although, Doom was also capable of being pathetically easy, at the player's request, while players with veteran skill could also play it to suit their level. Streets of Rage is harder than God of War. Contra is harder than Army of Two. Understand the pattern?

It used to be difficult (for a number of different reasons, including technology and a smaller industry at the time) to get a proper story into a videogame. Now that the proper tools are available to make this more accessible, that gets a better focus, and the developers don't want the player getting distracted from their story with extra stuff like that. Sometimes, things take an inverse, like how Sonic 3 & Knuckels has a much bigger, more complex, and overall far better story than Sonic Generations. Most people just ignore S3&K's story, because it isn't blatantly served to them on a silver platter. It's told with more subtlety.

There's some very deep psychology to this stuff, that I haven't even scratched. This is why there are entire colleges that exist specifically to train aspiring game developers.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, October 26th, 2012, 9:09 pm

@Lugbzurg: Whoops~ I guess I didn't read your comment properly! XD

As for the gay marriage aspect, reguardless of the studies, I still support the community. That being said, I would not like to drag this on any further. No one's going to dissuade anyone's views(hopefully, not that anyone was trying to.) so there's really no point.

@Fiora Aroura: I hope though, that our different views don't do anything to harm our friendship though. :(

Reply Fiora Aroura, October 26th, 2012, 9:15 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: I'm not saying that people can't be happy. But if you want to be with someone because you're sexually attracted to them, it WILL NOT bring forever happiness, it will only make you happy for a short while. People have always said that FAMILIES are the key to true happiness, and you can't have a family with same sex marriages, sides adoption, which isn't only an abomination, but will DEFINITELY going to get the kid teased because he has gay parents and I'm sure he won't really grow up to be all "love and tolerance."
I don't know where you stand in religion and I don't want to cause problems by bringing it into this, but in my religion we are taught that Satan knows families are so important, and that's why he's doing everything he can to destroy them. Namely tempting people with sick thoughts of attraction to the same sex, and thus ruining the chance to have children and a family.
That is why homosexuality saddens me so much and why I have strong feelings against it.

And on the topic of "freedom" I suppose I could just come to your house right now and stab you in the gut because "It's a free country." I can steal someone's horse cause we live in a free country. There are some things you don't go beyond, Bruce. Too much freedom can indeed be a VERY bad thing. And with raising children in a gay family CAN screw them up, believe it or not 8/ What we truly need if for children to be raised in healthy families for a change...

@Lugbzurg: You agree with me? Holy crap, that's a first.

Reply Lugbzurg, October 26th, 2012, 9:19 pm

Now, some of the more high-end games? Here we go again, with the whole "Games as Art" thing...

The Legend of Zelda
Half-Life
Portal
Shadow of the Collosus
Ico
Assassins Creed
Metal Gear
Fallout
The Elder Scrolls
Halo
Battlefield: Bad Company
Conker's Bad Fur Day (No, I'm serious. That ending will stay with me for the rest of my life.)
Sonic Adventure 1 & 2
Earthbound
Journey
Flower
Flow
Cloud
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Alan Wake

We've moved on way past the days of Tetris, Asteroids, and Frogger. If videogames aren't art, then how can films or books? Just because there are games like Mortal Kombat out there, it doesn't mean that they are any less important, just like Twilight doesn't make all books lowly, nor does The Hangover ruin all films.

I think of what Gabe Newel told us about his early experience with videogames. Doom convinced him that videogames were the future, while Super Mario 64 convinced him videogames were art. In which case, I think he just might completely gush over something like Banjo-Kazooie.

I remember a quote from South Park.
"Hey guys, you know what day it is?"
"Um..Halloween?"
"That's right. And only 2 more months till Christmas!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, christmastime means presents for me."

@Lugbzurg: I disagree. Reading a book leaves the imagining up to you, making a mind much more creative and vivid. And you're exercising your brain with reading. Video games aren't healthy in the least.

@Lugbzurg: And read this XD
http://www.tomlommel.com/index.cfm/2010/9/30/10-Reasons-Books-Are-Better-Than-Video-Game s

EDIT: Ah, looks like I'll have to paste it:

Video games suck, books rock, and here's why:

1. The hardware is standard.
Here's one half of a phone conversation I heard this week at GameStop: "Okay, well, Little Big Planet is a PS3-only title, so you probably don't want to purchase that if he has an Xbox."

But if my mom buys a book for me for Christmas, she doesn't have to worry about whether I have an Xbox or a PS3 or the right graphics card or enough RAM. As long as I have a functioning set of eyes and can read at a 6th grade level, I'm good to go with 90% of the books out there.

(Did you catch that back-handed slap at the publishing industry? Ok, good.)

2. Books are always backwards-compatible.
Man I loved Burnout 3: Takedown. There was nothing more fun than pointing your Dominator muscle car into an oncoming lane of traffic and launching off the overpass in an explosive rain of fiery destruction. That game was super fun.

Super fun until I got a PS3. One of the newer, gimped PS3's that wouldn't play Burnout 3.

That's cool, I'll just buy Burnout Paradise. What's sixty bucks, right? Oh, except Burnout Paradise took everything that was fun about the franchise, neutered it, and overstuffed the game in favor of an "open" world with a lot of wrong turns and terrible timed events. Compared to Burnout 3, Burnout Paradise sucks.

You know what's great? When I pick up my dog-eared copy of Breakfast of Champions - the one I bought in 1989, it's still just as fun and interesting to read as it was back then.

3. Better hardware specs.
Your PS3 is capable of approximately 2,018 Gigaflops (Floating Point Operations per Second.)

Your brain runs roughly 10 times faster.

Advantage: Books.

Put another way, the graphics in video games are limited by memory, available processing power, and resolution of the target display.

In a book, the chicks are literally as hot as you can imagine.

4. No tutorials.
Imagine if every book started like this:

"Welcome to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. This book is formatted for Western English readers. Begin reading at the upper left of the page and continue scanning your eyes to the right until you come to the end of a line. Look down one row of type, and resume reading across to end of the row. Let's try it:

Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you'd expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn't hold with such nonsense.

"Did you successfully read the two sentences? Good! You're almost ready to begin enjoying this book. One last step: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is divided into pages.

Pages are denoted by a sudden stoppage of paper. When you reach the end of a page, continue reading by grasping the right-hand page with your right thumb and forefinger and manually flipping it the left. This move is called a turn and once you master it, the sentence from the previous page will continue seamlessly."

Seems ridiculous, right?

But I can't tell you how many games I've played where I have to spend 10 minutes learning how to pick up a box or read a piece of paper.

5. No load screens.
When I want to start a book, I don't have to watch some lame, jittery animation that's filled with inane "tips" like "Hiding under cover for a while will restore your shield and health."

Eyes + book = READING!

PS3 + game disc = BATHROOM BREAK!

6. No save points or timed missions.

GRAVITY'S RAINBOW
[TIME'S UP - MISSION FAILED.]
YOU HAD TEN MINUTES TO FINISH EPISODE 31 OF "IN THE ZONE."
DO YOU WISH TO
[Q]UIT
OR
[L]OAD NOVEL FROM THE BEGINNING?

Note to video game developers: In a book, every page is a save point. Take a lesson and quit padding out your expected play time.

7. Video games are at the bottom of the entertainment food chain.
Here's something I like to call The Inverse Laws of Entertainment:

Good book = crappy movie.
Good movie = crappy video game.
Good video game = years of "development talks," reams of lame/disturbing fan fiction, or -- in the worst possible scenario -- "An Uwe Boll production."

Let's face facts people, the bar was set with E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (the movie-to-video game conversion they literally had to bury in a landfill) and it has not gone up much from there.

8. Variety.
Video games come in three basic genres:

Shooter.
Platformer.
Incomprehensible Japanese RPG.

Books, on the other hand, are not solely targeted to appeal to 15 year-old boys. Some, for instance, are targeted to appeal to 15 year-old girls. (Ha, publishing industry! IN YOUR FACE!)

And, unlike a video game, if you buy an RPG book, you can actually ROLE-PLAY. Like, have an interesting, nuanced conversation with that orc mercenary before you get out your +3 Axe of Mighty Cleaving and whack him into finely-minced chunks. Believe it or not, there's more to role-playing than just Circle, Skip, Attack.

And if you miss your beautiful, perplexing Japanese video games, the fine people who invented books have this thing called manga and not only is it just as incomprehensible, but it's dirtier than you'd expect. Just remember to start in the back.

(If you just mumbled "That's what she said" please click away from my blog now and go back to your Halo: Reach Team Deathmatch. You are fired.)

9. Value.
Your average paperback book: $6.
Your average videogame: $60.

If you complain that the time/value proposition of a video game is way higher because you can get more total hours of play from a video game than the time it takes to read ten books, I suggest you need to graduate to a better class of book, check out this thing called a LIBRARY, and stop playing so many games with scarce save points and narrowly-timed missions.

10. Experience points, and points for experience.
I'm sure I've played over a hundred hours of Call of Duty: World at War. I got carpal tunnel and a glamorized, simplistic misunderstanding of World War II.

I also read Schismatrix by Bruce Sterling. I got a blown mind and a head-full of new ideas about the future.

In both cases, I earned XP. It's just that one gave me a better class of machine gun, and the other one level-ed up my brain.

Reply Lugbzurg, October 26th, 2012, 11:41 pm

@Fiora Aroura: I disagree. How do videogames automatically leave nothing up to your imagination? (Especially Minecraft, as Bruce thinks highly of). Not only that, but for videogames, you interact with the world. In books, you turn pages. If I want to imagine, that's what drawing is for. Plus, in a lot lot games like
Portal, Half-Life, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, there are a lot of vague implications that add to the meat of the story that you would automatically be filling into it without even realizing it!

Case in point (for the four games mentioned above), the connection between the Ratman and GLaDOS, where the headcrab zombies came from, the steps in Dr. Robotnik's scheme, and where the deku mask came from. There are in fact things that a book just wouldn't be able to tell you, without literally spelling it out.

Also, most of your points don't even make sense. Burnout Paradice? That's your solution to not being able to play Burnout 3? Tutorials? Don't see those too often anymore. And the price tag? That's like saying you shouldn't buy a car, to get a bike instead. Or drop the house when you can live in a tent.

But, this is what killed it.

"Three basic generes". What? You've even ignored the obvious game Bruce has been mentioning over and over again? Let's take a better look. These games are all very different from one another.

Shooter (comes in a plethora of styles like those of Doom, Half-Life, Serious Sam, Halo, and Geometry Wars.)
Platformer (Super Mario Bros., Sonic the Hedgehog, Rayman, Banjo-Kazooie, and Mirror's Edge.)
Eastern Style RPG (Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, Xenogears, Darkstone, and Pokémon.)
Western Style RPG (The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, City of Heroes, Mass Effect, and World of Warcraft.)
Fighting (Super Smash Bros., Mortal Kombat, Tekken, SoulBlade, and Capcom vs. Whatever.)
Brawler (God of War, Streets of Rage, Devil May Cry, Beyonetta, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.)
Stealth (Metal Gear, Thief, Batman: Arkham Asylum/City, Tenchu, and Spliter Cell.)
Sandbox (Grand Theft Auto, inFAMOUS, [Prototype], Red Dead, and Assassins Creed.)
Puzzle (Portal, Peggle, Chip's Challenge, Bomberman, and The Incredible Machine.)
Racing (Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Motorstorm, Split Second, and Burnout.)
Sports (Pong, Mario Sports Mix, NBA, NFL, and FIFA.)
Simulation (Roller Coaster Tycoon, Arma, Sim City, Sega Bass Fishing, and Punch-Out!!)
Survival and/or Horror (Silent Hill, Amnesia, Dear Esther, Slenderman, and The Oregon Trail.)
Ok, you know what? Take this list. http://www.ranker.com/fact-lists/video-games/genre

And then there are others can get much more complicated in categorizing! Minecraft, The Legend of Zelda, Journey, Cloud, Flow, Flower, Tetris, Borderlands, Sam & Max, Typing of the Dead, Ratchet & Clank, Shadow of the Collossus, Ico, Rock Band, Plants vs. Zombies, Uncharted, Midnight Club, Limbo, Jak & Daxter, Zombies ate my Neighbors, Alan Wake, Frogger, Break-Out, Pac-Man, Dig-Dug, Fallout... There are just too many!

Your claim that there are only three basic genres in videogames... What the heck...!? If this wasn't important, if this isn't a big deal, why are there so many colleges and conventions built around these things? "Unhealthy for your brain"? I don't know what kind of bias articles you've been reading, 'cause they know zilch about the complex psychology of videogames and how people interact with them.

@Bruce the Hedgehound: I think this was on The Escapist. Someone actually built the entirety of Castlevania's levels in Minecraft! They even added the in-wall potroasts!

@Lugbzurg: Read my wall of text, kthx.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, October 26th, 2012, 11:55 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Hey Fiora? How come you, me and Prezzie's Nightmare Night costumes haven't been added to the comic?

@Lugbzurg: Lug, I think you're missunderstanding. Fiora was pasting something else, I don't think those are her thoughts. Well... not entirely. BUt really though, the person that said three basic generes are all there is in video games must not know enough to even critisize if that's what they truely think. That statement right there pretty much debunks the persons arguement. And besides, the whole thing stinks of biased.

Face it Lugbzurg, I just don't find your pursuit in life that honorable. And I find it's quite pathetic of you to truly think video games are better for you than books. I'm very disappointed.
And dude, I told you that I pasted that from a website. And that practically is what I think anyway though ^^
(But you know what they say ^^ the madder they get, the more they realize they were wrong. You seemed pretty mad XD)

@TeamSonicPrezREBORN: I have already constructed a different ending for dis comic. Looks like Green headed for the hills, so it's impossible to finish it with all of us now.
S'okay though, I like it better ^^ It has an Alicorn, Phoenix, and a dragon. The 3 main magical creatures.
GASP! Then I'll do my Smooze story! ^^

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Dunno really. I said I wasn't continuing until Green and Epic put up both their entries. Since Green apparently ran away though, there seems to be nothing I can do.
I know. I was dying to show it off X( But alas, it would seem others didn't care much for it as I.
Perhaps I'll just have to do what I said earlier, and send you the sketched pages scanned in. Hopefully you can read my handwriting.

And dem costumes...what?

@Fiora Aroura: I should've expected this. I become so stressed that I needed to take a break, and instead of trying to help or apologize, you replace me, insult me, and mock me.

You never listened to me. I was so busy, and I constantly wanted to update when I couldn't just to make you and everyone else happy and/or proud. And, instead of understanding, you think I don't care and that I expect you doing ALL the work.

Listen here, you. It's not my fault band came out of nowhere with no warning at the same time EoP started, it's not my fault I suck at making comics, it's not my fault Google's been screwing me over in regards to backgrounds, it's not my fault two of my best friends kept arguing, ignoring my comments for them to stop and putting me (and possibly others)in a state of depression and personal internal conflict just two pages ago. Of course, you do that well enough without Lug's help, as you have shown here.

All I wanted was to make you guys happy. I didn't know you would stop treating me as a friend because of my poor schedule.

Oh, and thanks guys. It's really nice when one of your friends leaves, and by the time you notice, ONE WEEK LATER I MIGHT ADD, you just sit there, and talk about trying to fix the comic's ending instead of fixing your breaking friendship with someone, if you could even call it that in the first place. Glad to see a unpopular webcomic is more important to you than your own "friend".

I have been bullied, tricked, trolled, mistreated, ignored, pushed around, angered, hurt, and abandoned among other things. But, I have never, ever been so upset by anyone.

SJ used to be my passage to heaven in a living hell. Now, it is a passage to hell in a living heaven. There are only three people left here who care, one's apparently banned from this comic and the other two have no authority because they are "kids."

I never ever ever ever ever want to work with you again. You're such a jerk.

I hate you.

Reply Fiora Aroura, October 28th, 2012, 10:31 pm

@greenpowerstar: *sigh* Green, Green, Green, you are so dramatic. Am I really such an unforgivable, horrible waste of skin by telling you to hurry up with your months late comic pages? I really find it hard to find this stressing. You know, your life's not on the line here if you don't update. We just want you to hurry so we can get to the really great stuff. I do, anyway.
Never listened? Green, I was just as a dramatic emo as you when I was young (believe it or not -_-) The worst thing you can do for a wound is nurse it. You walk on it, ignore it, conquer it. It makes you stronger. In this case, it's dealing with whiney people. I've never mentioned this, but I pick on people because I want to make them stronger. I want them to stand up to me. I want them to put me in my place so they will be tougher later on. I certainly do NOT want them bawling a sob story to me. That's only feeding the flame. In every case, NEVER beg for sympathy. You will just get "picked on" more. If you stand up for yourself, even if you don't win, you will gain respect.
I don't know why me and Lugbzurg arguing bugs you. That boy can piss me off easier than stubbing my toe. But that's really just because we're good friends. Know this now Green, the ones you care about most will make you the most angry.
If you thought I didn't notice, you're wrong. Of course I noticed. I thought you needed to get away, surely. I casually mentioned it as a little hint. (Time to come back now...)
And boy, if you saw the way I treat my cousin, you'd think we'd kill each other in our sleep. But we adore each other because we know better. I tease her like a cruel blizzard. She doesn't sit and cry, but laughs and teases me back. That's all I want you to do as well ^^
We have ALL been bullied Green. EVERYONE has problems, everyone has a different story. The last thing we should do is sit and bawl about them, especially to others. But when you can sit and laugh about them, let them make you stronger and a better person, your heart is pure gold.
A place is a place. You can make it heaven or hell, depends on how you act in it. Make it heaven.

I know, I know. But I'll just say that after setting this all up, I hope my actions have spoken stronger than my words, Green.

Something ironically painful just popped into my head.

Does everyone remember that Kony 2012 nonsense that got the internet and the U.S. all frazzled? Well, I recalled the little kid in the video says he wanted to be like his dad. Imagine 10 years from now that little kid grows up and finds out his dad is a scam artist. How embarassing is it gonna be for him in school? Even worse, how bad is it gonna be when he realizes he inadvertantly wanted to emulate someone like that too?

Reply Fiora Aroura, October 29th, 2012, 3:24 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: I doubt a kid would STILL want to be like his parents 10 years from now.

Alright, I'm back... and I have something that will blow your minds!

Schools have been using commercial videogames to teach students for years, such as Minecraft, Portal, Zapper, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and even Grand Theft Auto.

Videogames are being used to train soldiers and doctors. On the soldier side, you can download the ARMA games on Steam (the most realistic war simulation FPS ever created). Actually, ARMA III is coming out pretty soon.

Videogames are often beating therapists at their own jobs.

Alternate Reality Games exist. (Look 'em up.)

Scientific studies show that young people who spend more time playing videogames in which they're required to help each other are signifigantly more likely to help friends, family, neighbors, and even strangers in their real lives.

Quest to Learn is a school for grades 6-12; the first school to base its practices on videogames, bringing students to "game" their way to graduation.

Speaking of which, there aren't just college degrees for videogame design, but entire colleges themselves dedicated to it.

Oh, yeah... and this happened!
http://www.fastcompany.com/1781247/foldit-gamers-solve-science-riddles-quest-cure-diseas e

It's amazing which some simple, solid research can do! I've also been reading Reality is Broken, which has made me realize more and more that anyone who tries to argue that videogames are unimportant (or especially mind-numbing garglemesh) haven't got the foggiest clue as to just what the heck they're talking about! These are some of the reasons why I'm so serious about this career!

@Lugbzurg: In my younger years, I turned out to be a really good problem solver. Why? Because I spent tons of hours on The Legend of Zelda and Fire Emblem. Speaking of the latter, has anyone seen the new Fire Emblem trailer for the 3DS?

Reply Lugbzurg, November 1st, 2012, 6:11 pm

@epicness: I want to start getting into Team Fortress 2 and some Portal 2 Co-op.

@Bruce the Hedgehound: The Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem... and Metroid! I've played two Zelda games to completion, plus half the Skyward Sword demo, and played one title in the other two franchises. Though, they aren't completed. And more Fire Emblem on the 3DS!? Do want!

@Fiora Aroura: Wait... what? PewDiePie? As in the guy who screams and swears all the time while constantly making rape jokes? And has several videos titled for sexual content? On the other note, Wreck-It Ralph hasn't even come out, yet. In fact, I'm going to see it on opening night tomorrow (only other time I did that was for Toy Story 3), because from what has been shown so far, the story is very interesting and unique, the humor is excellent, and it's very obvious to me that they did very thorough research for their film.

We're just butting heads again this week, aren't we?

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 1st, 2012, 6:52 pm

@Lugbzurg: Oh so subtle. "Fiora's stupid and doesn't know what she's talking about people!"
That all sounds like justification to me. I haven't seen one single incident of what you mentioned ever happen.

Video games aren't going to save a soldier in battle.

I bet you will be one of the people who'll want computers teaching kids in school rather than real flesh in blood people, if you aren't already.

Alternate reality eh? Like Skyrim? The only thing I learned in that game was how to kill a dragon. Boy am I glad I know that.

With the "helping strangers" thing, I've only seen the complete opposite. Kids who DON'T sit on video games all day are much more helping and people-friendly.

"Game their way to graduation"? Uh, last I checked, I didn't play video games in school, and they certainly didn't help me understand my classes.

It seems to be the dream of every little boy in America to grow up making video games, cuz hey, they've been playing them their whole lives, they know everything about them, right? Wrong. The only people who are going to be hired for a job like that are extremely smart people with college degree's.

"It's amazing which some simple, solid research can do!"
It's also amazing what kind of things you can find on the internet! I bet I could find a whole bunch of sites telling me why drugs are good for you to! :D
Did you know that drugs prevent cancer? The internet told me so! I didn't even have to get off the video games to go find out either! 8D

What you said about "blowing up the mind" though is hilarious, since video games can do that already XD

@Bruce the Hedgehound: I know how to kill zombies while in my living room. I'm prepared for life.

@Fiora Aroura: I never said videogames save soldiers in battle. Don't twist my words. I said they're used to train them. Doctors, too.

You also should make completely off-the-wall assumptions based on something completely irrelevant that I said. Not just with the "computers teaching kids" bit ('cause that really makes no sense), but also that you somehow came to the conclusion that I don't do my research on the internet. I have books and real life in my source bank too, you know.

Skyrim is not an alternate reality game, by any stretch of the imagination. Alternate reality games blur the line between videogames and real life.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_reality_game

Videogames are a very social tool, and that has what I've seen reflected. People who have been playing a lot of videogames, even if it's nothing but Call of Duty have been much more social, and when it comes to the kind I mentioned earlier. Yes, it works. Scientific studies beat on-the-spot assumption.

And just because you didn't play videogames in class, that means other schools don't? I was just visiting a college recently, and they have an academic partnership with Valve, because of this stuff. I even own one of the copies of Zapper that was released during its Scholastic phase.

You're on a dangerous level of underestimation. I've been doing my research for years. You should know plenty of this stuff, if you're going to make an attempt to argue that videogames aren't important. Because, it's pretty dang obvious at this point...

Videogames are VERY important for the world. There's no denying it.

I'm starting to agree with Lugbzurg her-

>Even if it's nothing but Call of Duty

Whatthefuckno

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 1st, 2012, 9:47 pm

@Lugbzurg: No, you pretty much did. And if video games aren't teaching a soldier how to protect himself in battle, what are they teaching them, per say? Have you been a soldier before?

No, I stated cruel facts. You just didn't want to read them.

No DUH! Video games and real-life, right? Skyrim looks pretty realistic to me. And it hasn't helped me in life at all, nor, I'm sure, will any others.

Who are you trying to convince, me or you? Cuz I've seen results of kids who play video games and those who don't, and it's clear who the healthier ones are. Oh yea, and I've actually TALKED to people who played Call of Duty all the time, and they really are not social. In fact, they're quite rude and extremely egotistical.
And I really don't care whatever the heck Zapper is.

And you don't scare me by saying I'm on "dangerous ground" and pretending to be an expert here. It's pretty hard to be intimidated by video game basement dwellers. And nothing you've said has even remotely convinced me.
All you seem to do here is say "VIDEO GAMES ARE GOOD PERIOD!!" Kay, so where's your proof? I've SEEN actual results where you just want to believe what you want to make you look better.

That quote only proves my point more.

Books are much better for you, and you're a fool to deny it.

Reply epicness, November 1st, 2012, 9:50 pm

Both are great, video games give a chance to explore and feel free, that moment playing a game in first person, gives you a chance to do stuff you would never do,books mentally enchance and AND make your eyes better.

Reply Lugbzurg, November 1st, 2012, 9:59 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Wait, what? I just gave you heaps of proof. Your response so far has been pretty much nothing but twisting my words and flat-out denying everything I've said. Not to mention, posting flat-out bias lies about videogames, like that incipid "Only three genres" bit.

I've been there. I've talked with people working at colleges. I've done research for years...

...and just where on Earth are you pulling this "Skyrim" thing from? I just told you, Skyrim has nothing to do with what I'm talking about! The Elder Scrolls has nothing whatsoever to do with Alternate Reality Games.

Videogames are important for the world, and I'm not about to launch petty insults about it. Engagement. No other medium holds this better. You can argue all you want, but this world carries facts. Facts about videogames, and their greater purpose in this world.

But hey, according to you, training soldiers and doctors, educating students, and curing diseases just isn't important by any stretch of the imagination, is it?

Oh, something else I forgot. First-Person Shooters were also proven to allow people to locate specific people and objects in large crowded areas a lot faster.

@epicness: Hey, there's no denying that there are plenty of people who play nothing but Call of Duty, and even with that very small dip into videogames, they still end up alright.

Reply epicness, November 1st, 2012, 10:28 pm

@Lugbzurg:

BUT CALL OF DUTY GAMES ARE JUST THE SAME SHIT OVER AND OVER AGAIN WITH NEW LAMASSS GUNS.

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 1st, 2012, 10:32 pm

@Lugbzurg: No you didn't. You just said "video games do this" but you had no proof. I'm not twisting or denying anything. But you sure are. Are you not used to people having a different opinion than you? Or do they all just pretend to agree with you to shut you up?

Yea, quite frankly, I find that hard to believe. And you're talking about "Alternate reality" games, games that look like real-life. Like Skyrim. Doy.

Really? Cuz it's been my experience that the best engagement is actual engagement. No video game is going to teach you how to survive in a crisis, or defend yourself, or teach you how to drive an actual car, or find a job, or how to cook, how to talk to people, all the obvious things. I hope you get the point, but I highly doubt it.
No, I can see you think you're not throwing insults, but you're sure saying that I have no concerns for soldiers or doctors or teacher or anything else.

Hypocrite. Not an insult, but truth.

But there you go getting angry again XD Heehee, another point for me ^^

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 1st, 2012, 10:58 pm

Y'know, I think PewDiePie says penis and refers to the penis a little too much in his videos. And he sings about penis sometimes. It gets annoying and I die a little inside every time I hear it.

Reply Lugbzurg, November 2nd, 2012, 12:01 am

@Fiora Aroura: You've been twisting my words for quite a while now. Case in point: I say videogames like ARMA II are used to train soldiers, and you insist I said that videogames keep soldiers from dieing.

Also, I'm giving you actual facts about several things that videogames have done for the real world. How do you mistake that for opinions?

Alternate Reality Games are not Games that look like real-life.
Skyrim, however, is in fact being used for college classes.
http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/ingame/fight-giants-slay-dragons-college-students-play -skyrim-class-1C6690402

I tell you that videogames are used to train people. You insist that is stupid. Ergo, you're insisting that training simulators are a waste of resources. I'm just showing you the logic you handed over.

By the way, your comment about Zapper? I should probably point out that admitting you have no clue what something is does not help your argument.

And frankly, you're the only one I've seen getting angry. Besides, angry people tend to be the ones throwing petty insults like children (again).

And you want proof? Sources? Ok, have a slew...

I don't care about tests or other junk, I play video games because I love it.

That being said, Lug, do you really NEED a reason to love video games? All these tests and quizes on their benefits don't mean a thing to gamers. What matters to us is the joy we have from them. I'm not going to love Trauma Center anymore than I already do if I have the actual knowledge to effectively perform heart surgery with complete accuracy. I'll just be proud of it. Learn to be proud of them, not to super-glorify them.

@Fiora Aroura: Videogames have done so much for the world. I'm defending what you're attacking. If you're going against professional training, cures for diseases, enticing education, mega-multiple-digit paychecks, and incredible interactive literature, that's your choice. Something gets blindly attacked, especially something so vitally important, what do you think I'm gonna do? I've handed out indisputable facts about the abridged history of grand videogame accomplishments. Because, for some reason, you've been demonizing one of humankind's greatest achievements.

I'm also not the one who let out insults. Read those comments you won't find even one. Am I so full of myself because... there's something I enjoy? Something that hits the sweet spot for me? Something that has changed the world for the better in countless ways? So much hate for videogames... for what? Because, they're useless? It's collectable-crystal clear that just isn't the case. This isn't 1983. This is 2012. I'm here to hit "Start" and save the game.

Also, I just got back from seeing Wreck-It Ralph. That film couldn't have existed without videogames. And I can honestly say I have never seen any media ever get so much emotion from me. You're going to love it.

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 2nd, 2012, 11:35 pm

@Lugbzurg: This is the result of a kid who takes video games as srs business:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-esfe5qLqxY

Pathetic, right? That's why I say read a book, instead.
Video games can be extremely addicting, and that's why they can be bad for you. Yes, like a drug, and just as mind melting.
And I'm not going against soldiers, doctors, teachers, etc. You're just trying to make it look like I am. Which you're doing a lousy job of. I don't need to be a video game cheerleader to support those things.
I wasn't blindly attacking either. I just said MY kids aren't going to grow up playing video games all day, and turn into the kid in that video. And quite frankly, it's none of YOUR business to tell me otherwise.

Know what else humankind has achieved? The pyramids, The leaning tower of Piza, wheels on cars for crying out loud! And none of these things would have been made if kids sat on their butts playing video games all day.

Hmm, let's see then. "The information you have is useless." That was rude. "People who argue about video games being unhealthy have NO idea what their talking about." That was pathetically unsubtle. "You're on dangerous ground. I know what I'm talking about." Acting like a total prat here. You think I don't know what I'm talking about either? That's what you're pretty much saying. "You don't care about soldiers and doctors and teachers." Only lying, thieving, filthy scumbags don't care about those things. That was a HUGE subtle insult right there alone. "Admitting you don't know what one video game in the world is means you don't know what you're talking about." Oh really? So have you read all 4 books of Twilight? Since I highly doubt it, I find that YOU don't know what you're talking about when you say you hate it. You just want to do what everyone else is doing, cuz it's popular. You called me a petty child. Extremely rude, especially coming from someone like you.
Then, saying that you've done nothing rude at all. The nerve.

And quite frankly, I'm not so sure I'm "proud" of how the worlds turned out to be here in 2012. People had a lot more integrity back then.

And no, I don't think I'm going to see it. It didn't look that interesting to me.

I agree with Fiora on this. I love video games, but I only play once in a while, and knowledge is power. Can't get much power from video games in that light. Books allow you to use your imagination, which only a few video games do. And teachers are 200% better than some silly old computer.

You know, this is all opinion-based. Saying video games are better or more important than books (or vice versa) is like saying rock is better or more important than pop. Video games and books are two types of entertainment. Both have pros and cons, but that doesn't make one better than the other.

Also, Skyrim isn't an alternate reality game and Benjamin has an "e" in it.

@epicness: Why would I call it Black 2? It's not black 2, it's Black Version 2. The second part of Black Version.

@Fiora Aroura: Samus could destroy Master Chief if they were in a battle to the death. This I know! Oh, and I've started on your biarthday present! It might take me a day or two to finish it.

Reply epicness, November 4th, 2012, 10:41 pm

Because you're implying that you've never had Black (Version) (1) And Black (Version) 2.

And you've gotten Black,even though there's Black 2.

WHY HAVEN'T YOU BOUGHT BLACK RIGHT NOW?!WHY?!IT'S BEEN A YEAR SINCE IT CAME OUT.

@Fiora Aroura: So, someone screaming over Halo, and... No. That's just not right. It feels like you've had some sort of horrible childhood experience of some kind that has given you this bias that none of us hold. This is a much truer example of someone taking videogames seriously.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=173kQcnBqYs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp8dROcvpAQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwDuJg-CRpo

That's the strange thing. I've been talking about various accomplishments that videogames have had that bettered the world in some way. And for some unknown reason, this doesn't sit well with you. I try to discuss something positive, and you have these violently-negative reactions to it. What is it about you these days, acting so negative against something so positive?

Every time I bring up a point, you seem to make an attempt at shooting it down along the lines of either "Nope, you're lying" or "Note, still useless". So, when I say that it sounds like you're speaking this way, it's because that's honestly what it sounds like.

You've been getting so angry lately. You yell, throw insults, and search far too deeply for hidden meanings that simply don't exist. I'd like to understand you. Because it comes off as though you actually WANT all videogames to be mind-numbing nonsense, rather than tapping further into the technology that gives them the edge and ability that no other medium has. You explain very little, if any, twist words around, and then wonder why we sometimes have a very hard time understanding you. This is not how it should be.

On the more positive side, I just saw this beautiful Irish film called "The Secret of Kells", which I am quite certain you would enjoy. Here, have a look at my favorite character!

@epicness: Well... I havn't bought any pokemon games as of recent. I never even got the Diamond/Pearl or Gold/Silver versions either. The reason is because I was holding out for a console Pokemon game. The last console Pokemon game we got was Battle Revolution, and that sucked harder than whore in a wind tunnel. So I figured, why not invest in the newest installment and stop being such a whiner.

And I'm not angry. This has always been me. You're the one who's changed. So leave me alone about it already.

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Hmm, I'd have to disagree with you there. Samus only seems to follow her training methods. Master Chief goes all out and in his own way. Very unpredictable. He'd more have the upper hand.
No dissin on the Chief.

@Fiora Aroura:
YES MC ALWAYS WINS.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 5th, 2012, 6:30 pm

@Fiora Aroura: I dunno. Samus has had alien and top Military training under her belt. On top of that, she's a lone hunter who is only called when even the most elite of the Galactic Federation can't get the job done. Even going so far as being called the most famous and feared bounty hunter in many, MANY, galaxies. Coupled with her wide assortment of weaponry, her morph ball technique, and super human athleticism, I'd feel comfortable knowing that she could kick Master Chief's tin can out of the park. And, she's destroyed planets and large scale space stations, along with completely obliterating an entire alien race all by herself, and probably before she gets breakfast in the morning. o.o

As for my birthday present... well, actually I don't know. ^^; I didn't expect to be asked.

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 5th, 2012, 8:59 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: *snicker* You have a crush on Saaaamuuus ^^

Samus may have been found at a young age, Master Chief was kidnapped and made into what he is. Good reason to assume he has no weaknesses or hesitation, whereas Samus...yea, she's kinda whiny. He's a Spartan II (supersoldiers) cybernetically and biologically enhanced, and only few Spartans even survived that. They were the last resorts in battle, and as everyone knows, Master Chief is the best. In his lifetime, he's saved the lives of more people than can be counted, single-handedly brought down an entire covenant fleet, destroyed not just a planet destroyer, but a LIFE destroyer, AND the device that makes them, moved a bomb with his bare hands that weighs so much that it takes a complete lack of gravity for the covenant to move, and then there's going to be the more amazing things in Halo 4 coming up.

AND he still has good games! There's no doubt people like him better. People like him because he's cool. People like Samus because she wears spandex -_-

And personally, whenever I see Master Chief, one thought comes to my head.
"We're saved!"

(And keep your fantasies to yourself, Bruce. X( )

Reply greenpowerstar, November 5th, 2012, 9:40 pm

@Fiora Aroura: It's not Samus's fault that Team Ninja screwed her over in personality, strength, and overall coolness. T_T

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 5th, 2012, 9:45 pm

@Fiora Aroura: I don't have a crush on Samus, just a lot of respect.

And no sensible person likes Samus because of spandex. First of all, we all liked Samus BEFORE we found out she was a girl and WAAAAAY before she was shown in the Zero Suit. Second, because she wore spandex and had a big butt and boobs was one of the major reasons people hated Other M, so that theory goes right out the door. :P

And Samus doesn't need cybernetic enhancements for her superhuman feats. She was trained that way as a baby, from an alien race.

(I'm not fantasizing though! D: Rogue and Wonder Woman REALLY had a battle to the death. It was on ScrewAttack called DEATH BATTLE!. It's an awesome webseries. You want the link? There's an episode with Master Chief in it! :D)

Reply Lugbzurg, November 6th, 2012, 9:13 pm

@Fiora Aroura: "Acting innocent". What? You insisted that videogames have no real-world value. I showed you several instances in which they did, and you completely flipped out, insisting everything I brought up was either a lie or still useless.

You actually have changed a lot. You used to be leagues more calm, and get rather philosophical, not too long ago. You didn't freak out when someone talked about something positive. You didn't mock people, make wild accusations about lying, pull petty insults, make completely off-the-wall-random assumptions, communicate so vaguely that it created more questions than answers, or turn back on your own word.

I'm sure we've all been wondering just why you would even be angry at something like this. Why would you hold so much hatred for the fact that people are actually using and designing videogames for some very important real-world purposes? One would think you'd be overjoyed to know things like this. Yet, somehow you're angry? At this point, it makes no visible sense. Especially after this...

"I pick on people because I want to make them stronger.
Know this now Green, the ones you care about most will make you the most angry."

People were making the same kinds of accusations and various events of hatred against pretty much every big medium in history. Books, films, music, plays, you name it. Videogames are just the newest addition to this list. And in a few decades, they'll be completely embedded into global human culture like the other mediums.

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Hey, you and me both. (I don't know if you think the following, but...) Samus is my personal favorite female videogame character. In fact, all I've played has been Metroid Prime and a very small amount of Metroid: Zero Mission. (And some Super Smash Bros. That should count, right?) And I've picked up various other bits of info over time. Kazooie ranks up pretty high, as well. In fact, it seems I'm one of the few people who actually likes Navi.

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 6th, 2012, 10:26 pm

@Lugbzurg: Kay, you're just saying the same things over and over again. I'm ignoring you.

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Pfft HAHAHAHA! Ah Bruce, you don't fool me. You're a bit delusional there. Next you'll be telling me that people like Lara Croft because she's a skilled martial arts master.
And uh, Bruce, you can't train someone to be cybernetically enhanced.
Also, I don't care how much training you have, it's not physically possible for the human body to converge to a tiny ball shape and roll around. That's really just pretty lame.
With Master Chief, everything with him and his world actually seems plausible, like it really could happen, and that's why it's so interesting.

And if you wanna see awesome episodes with Master Chief in them, check out the Forward Unto Dawn episodes. Really, I can't stop watching them ^^ That scene where the Chief swings onto the Hunter and shoves a plasma grenade into it's gut, man I WISH!! <D

(Sides, Master Chief can take blunt-force trauma from Hunter shields, while Samus gets slammed by Ridely and has to rely on a little yellow rat to save her XD)

Oh, and all these birthday hints are making me dying to know what it is ^^ That is very sweet of you to make me something though :)
You still haven't chosen what you wanted.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 6th, 2012, 11:35 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Seriously. Samus has been a beloved character before the Zero suit. In fact, the Zero suit made it's first appearance in a Gameboy game. It wasn't untill Brawl and Other M that it got.... detailed... Even before Zero Mission, she was already an icon among gaming for her lone wolf demeanor and always getting the job done. And on the subject of Lara Croft... Come on! You're gonna compare Samus to HER? D: Lara was designed from the bottom up(no pun intended) to pander to guys crotches from the beginning. The most skin Samus has EVER shown in the entirety of the series is her neck and up. Unless you count this one scene in Other M when she was a baby and was naked floating in space, but that's disgusting.
Anyways, we both have a personal preference of our Power Suit clad heroes, there's not reason to butt heads... But if anyone tries to debate Sephiroth being better than Kefka, I will argue to the grave!(different conversation altogether, I would rather not get into it because blood will be spilled.)

And in Samus' defense, she can take a lot of hits. And she's traveled through lava and acid unharmed. Ridley caught her off guard, cheap shots don't count! >:C

So you wanna see those DEATH BATTLE! episodes? The newest one involves Pikachu!

Aaaaand... I still haven't decided what I wanted for my birthday... I've been busy working on your gift to give it much thought. :I I think I can finish your gift tonight or tomorrow. After that, I'll let you know.

Reply Lugbzurg, November 7th, 2012, 1:24 am

@Fiora Aroura: So, that's it, then? I'm trying to put together what's going on, since you've been making less and less sense. And rather than trying to fix anything, you just back away without a word of explanation?

You said yourself you want people to "put [you] in [your] place so they will be tougher later on", yet you go full-frontal assault when I tell you about accomplishments and productive uses?

Why? Why does that anger you at all?

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 7th, 2012, 11:16 am

@Lugbzurg: Lug, Maybe she just doesn't really care?

Maybe she's just upset with the fact that you just keep pushing this on her and not letting go. Seriously, I'm not even directly involved and I'M getting annoyed with you constantly talking about that.

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 7th, 2012, 4:31 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Samus was then, Chief was then AND now. He's pratically the face of good games ^^
And personally, I think even Lara could kick Samus' butt.

I don't even know who Kefka is, and I only saw Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts, and wasn't that impressed actually 8/ Sesshoumaru had more cool.

*snicker* Lava and acid? That the best you got? Chief can travel through both WHILE getting shot at and not even flinch.

You better pick quick. You know how slow I am at drawing things for others...

@Lugbzurg: Sure is.

And I wasn't "picking on you." I merely said on my own account that I wasn't going to do something. You barged in and pratically started saying NOYOUMUSTDOITPERIOD! I then said, No and here's why. You then go on about this BS on "defending something so innocent and good." It's like you've set it up.
And if this is what you call putting me in my place....you're not very good at it XD
Bruce has got it right though. I reeeally just don't care. And if you continue to make this such a big issue, I'll have to force you to shut up.

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 7th, 2012, 5:21 pm

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 15th, 2012, 3:00 am

@Fiora Aroura: Nah, I decided to put my Wii up on the shelf along with my other gameing consoles that I don't use anymore. I was going to buy one months ago, but with the Wii U being less than a week away from release, I figured I'd just get it instead. It'll support Wii games so I see no reason to get another Wii anyways. But rest assured, once I get that shiny new console, youse goin' DOWN to Chinatown! >:D

Alternatively, if you plan on getting a 3DS in the future you should get this game called Kid Icarus: Uprising. It was made by the same guys who've been behind the Smash Bros series since game one and the online death matches are frackin' amazing! Ask Ness, we've gone at it more than a few times.

But Uprising? WHOA. If there was ever a way to revive a series, THAT is one heck of a way. Even if you aren't really interested in Pit, I recommend checking it out, it's awesome. And it has a reward system like Brawl, so you can unlock trophies and other cool stuff by completeing tasks in the game. Think of it if Brawl were on a 3D plane.

@epicness: WELL, INHERENTLY IT'S NOT A CHICK FLICK, BUT A LOT OF CHICKS LIKE TO WATCH IT. AND AS FOR THE LURBY DURBY GUNK, KINDA. IT DOES GO A LITTLE HEAVY HOW PEOPLE CLAIM TO DIE FOR EACH OTHER OUT OF LOVE IN THE MOVIES BUT THIS IS JUST SAD. ALSO THE GIRL WHO PLAYS BELLUH LOOKS LIKE SHE'S DEAD ALMOST ALL THE TIME. LIKE SERIOUSLY, PALE-FACE McSPARKLES WILL JUST BE ALL 'IMMA DIE FOR YOU AND LOVE YOU FOR ETERNITY' AND SHE'S THERE BITING HER LOWER LIP LIKE SHE JUST TOOK A MASSIVE DUMP ON SCREEN. THAT GIRL IS NOT VERY GOOD AT ACTING IF I'M BEING FRANK.

MATTER OF FACT, SNOWWHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN WAS A PRETTY GOOD MOVIE BUT SHE WAS NOT A COMPELLING PROTAGONIST. I LIKED THE ACTING OF THE WOMAN WHO PLAYED THE WITCH FAR MORE BECAUSE SHE WAS SO OVER THE TOP WHERE AS THAT ONE GIRL WAS SUCH A BACKGROUND CHARACTER.

BUT I DIGRESS, IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHO YOU ASK ABOUT THE TWILIGHT SAGA. PERSONALLY THE BOOKS WERE OKAY, BUT I DISLIKE THE MOVIE VERY MUCH.

@Bruce the Hedgehound:
....

Also this may seal my faith into a fiery death by Twilight fans.

But i think Bella is too emo.

*crosses fingers*

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 15th, 2012, 11:30 pm

@epicness: No, I'll agree with you there. She was pretty emo and whiny at times and that's probably what annoyed me most about the books. It also doesn't make a lot of sense exactly WHY she's in love with Edward, I mean, they needed to have more moments and not ones that were weird 8/ Same goes for Edward to. See's her, BAM, center of his universe.
Uhh...why?
But one you can get past all that and accept it and the relationships between all the characters that seem to have appeared out of thin air, (8/) the story can get pretty good. I just recommend reading them.

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Chicks like it cuz it's the dream life. Hot guy is totally in love with you, his family is fun, beautiful, and successful, he has super powers, his skin is diamond-like, as a vampire you're frozen young and naturally beautiful forever, YOU have super powers, has a beautiful daughter, they don't need sleep so sex all night -_-, they don't need to buy food so lots of extra money, it just goes on.
But that's probably another reason why it got bad reactions. A story can be very bad if it's too good, but thankfully this one is backed by serious problems in the world. The Volturi is after their daughter, Jacob is in LOVE with their daughter, which at first for me, was extremely awkward and I wondered why she wrote that, but as it goes on and on and you get used to in and eventually accept it and suddenly support it, THAT is actually good writing.

Yee, I've rambled 8( I'll stop now, but basically my point is, it has everything a girl would only dream about, which is why they like it so much.

Ohthankgodi'mnotgoingtobeburned.

>reading them

Ahahahhaa NO.

Besides i don't like romance novels, even the good ones.

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 15th, 2012, 11:44 pm

@epicness: If you refuse to actually look into it, then don't strut around acting like you know how horrible it is 8/
Just like you don't believe rumors about a person until you ask them personally.

@Fiora Aroura:
Ok.

@epicness: Your Furby.

So who all wants to be in the Thanksgiving picture? I made a Halloween one if y'all want to see it, but it only has the ones who made costumes in it...

If you want to be in it, please tell me what you'd be doing at the table ^^;

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 17th, 2012, 12:46 am

@Fiora Aroura: I'd like to be in it! And I have one of two ideas.

1. Either fighting over the Pumpkin Pie with Seera.
or
2. doing a facehoof as Seera messily slams her face into the pie tin, hogging it all to herself..

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 17th, 2012, 12:50 am

@Bruce the Hedgehound: XD I love those ideas ^^
But which one? We could probably have pie already covered on her face and a bunch of pie tins behind her, Bruce trying to take another one away so she doesn't get sick ^^

Reply TeamSonicPrezREBORN, November 17th, 2012, 9:11 am

@Fiora Aroura: I would LOVE to be in it… and I'd like to see the Halloween pic too.
As for what I'd be doing… piling my plate with an unhealthy amount of stuffing with a stupid smile on my face, of course~

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 17th, 2012, 2:10 pm

@TeamSonicPrezREBORN: XD XD I love it!
I'll get to work on the Halloween one then. I think you'll like what I have you doing ^^

Anybody else?

Reply epicness, November 17th, 2012, 2:40 pm

@Fiora Aroura:
I'd be slamming the table for the food dish to fly in my face...and fail horribly...

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 17th, 2012, 4:17 pm

@Fiora Aroura: Actually, that idea is funny too! Let's go with that one! :D

@epicness: Whao, how do I draw that? XD

@Bruce the Hedgehound: That is the cutest thing ^^

Reply Bruce the Hedgehound, November 17th, 2012, 5:57 pm

@Fiora Aroura: The cake is mint chocolate.

As for the picture with Ness, you could draw the plate already in mid air and him with a "This is a bad idea..." face halfway through the collision.

Reply Fiora Aroura, November 18th, 2012, 3:46 pm

@Bruce the Hedgehound: Mint...chocolate....cake?? 80
